My name is Mary Jo Helchowski. I am a graduate of the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and have a BFA in illustration.
I write and illustrate children's books, create greeting cards, take commissions, and more. I am able to look back on my own experiences and remember my childhood, reminding myself of what I would have loved as a little kid, and putting that into my work. It's important to me that children can connect with my illustrations.
I work in watercolor and pen to create whimsical images perfect for storybooks and paintings, and photoshop to add finishing touches and create more graphic illustrations for everything from book covers to Playbills to t-shirts.
